    Message From the OCOA Nominating Committee*

    During this year’s annual meeting this December, the Osprey Cove Property Owners Association (OCOA) will elect five new board members.  Three new Board Members will be elected by property owners to replace the current declarant representatives on the Board and one each will be elected to fill the East and West District Director positions currently held by Bill Traub and George Keramidas. The election is slated for December 5th, 2018 with new members assuming their role on January 1st, 2019.

    The nomination materials include a summary of the roles and responsibilities of Board members and a nomination form.  Also included for your information is an article on the fiduciary responsibilities of a nonprofit board of directors.  Interested candidates can access the nomination materials online by visiting the OCOA website at www.ospreycove.org and email their application to adminocoa@tds.net. Candidates also may choose to submit the materials by mail or in person to the OCOA office. Mail should be sent to: Nominating Committee, OCOA, 123 Osprey Drive, St. Marys, GA 31558. Those submitting written documents are encouraged to deliver them, in person, to the OCOA office to avoid any possible delay with postal service. Again, all documents must be in a sealed envelope and addressed to the Nominating Committee.

    Candidates who applied to run in April can feel free to resubmit their original materials. Candidates should indicate on the nomination form whether they intend to run as an At Large, East or West District Director.

    The deadline for submission of nomination materials is no later than 4 p.m. Friday, October 12th, 2018.

    The Nominating Committee will meet individually with all candidates the week of October 15th. The annual meeting notice, proxy, “designated voter” form and instructions will be mailed to all property owners between October 22nd – 26th, 2018.

    The election will take place at the Annual Meeting on Wednesday, December 5th. Actual ballots will be available only at the meeting. Voting will be in person only or by proxy in accordance with the Bylaws. There will be nominations accepted from the floor for the director positions and an option for a write in candidate on the ballots.

    Our first General Meeting will be Thursday, September 20th at 6:30 pm at the Clubhouse.  If you haven’t joined yet, you can turn in your membership form at the meeting.

    Let’s kick off our year with a collection for our local elementary schools. The counselors have told us that while the children have supplies for the start of the school year, there is a continuing need for classroom supplies of the following: 

    • Lysol Wipes

    • Kleenex

    • Band Aids

    • Hand Sanitizer

    Because “Art” is back in the curriculum (yeah!), some of the children need spiral bound sketchbooks sizes: 8 ½ x 11 or 9 x 12.

    Collection Dates:

    September 18th & 19th or bring your donations to the first OCWC meeting on September 20th. 

    Collection Sites: Containers will be at the curb.

    If you would prefer to donate money, the David L. Ranier Elementary School has a “Children’s Emergency Discretionary Fund”. This fund is used to purchase food, or gas cards for families in need when a child or parent is hospitalized, as well as pay utility bills. The funds go directly to the utility. Make your check payable to the school, David L. Ranier Elementary School with a notation of the “Emergency Discretionary Fund” on the memo line.

    The Board set the date of the annual meeting and election for December 5th 2018 at the Cumberland Inn & Suites in St. Marys, GA. A timeline is being created for announcements and mailing of materials. The OCOA attorney will advise on the requirements for the meeting and election. In addition, a list of questions from the Board and the community has been created for review by the attorney.

    Dear Osprey Cove Property Owners, 

    We feel it is important to provide an update on the transition process and current plans for moving forward.  Despite the recent concerted effort to pass amendments to the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, at this point we believe it is in the best interests of all parties to table the effort to modify these documents until after election of new officers.  Based on the current governing documents, election will happen at the annual meeting in the late fall. Though it is not necessary to keep the election material you received in the mail, we encourage a review before discarding since new materials will be similar.  

    The OCOA Board is continuing to work on the transition process from Declarant governance to property owners.  We encourage your continued involvement in the transition process.  Participation and comment from the community benefits all properties owners.  

    Much progress has been made over the past year and the OCOA Board will continue its governance, fiduciary and operational directive to oversee the business and success of the OCOA.  Priorities such as property management, infrastructure, landscaping, security and budget oversight will remain unchanged. 

    Our goal has been and remains to have a unified community. We are committed to investing the time and effort required to achieve that goal and look forward to positive, constructive dialogue and input from all property owners.
